FACTS AND ISSUES:
In fall 2021, Cherokee County engaged TSW to develop master plans for three separate future parks in NE Cherokee County. One of those properties remains unnamed, but we have unofficially called it the Yellow Creek Road property throughout the public input and conceptual design process. Understanding that this future park will be a regional hub for trail riding and hiking along with canoe/ kayaking, and other outdoor recreational opportunities staff believes this is a simple way to identify the property and its location.
The 538 acre property is under a conservation easement with the Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia, Inc. It is located on the west side of Yellow Creek Road, just north of the Etowah River with river frontage on its southern and western boundaries. The purpose of the easement is to preserve and protect the conservation values of the property and to maintain permanent open space and the recreational values of the property.
The Recreation & Parks Advisory Board unanimously recommends to the Board of Commissioners to consider the official naming of the future park as the Yellow Creek Road Conservation Area & Trails. |
